An interview with Bryan Lanza, an adviser to Donald Trump, made headlines today, suggesting that the priority for the next US president when it comes to Ukraine would be peace - not the return of territory.
But Trump's team has distanced itself from Lanza's comments.
They insisted he was not speaking for the president-elect.
"Bryan Lanza was a contractor for the campaign," the spokesman said. "He doesn't work for President [elect] Trump and he doesn't speak for him," he added
The transition team is currently vetting staff and drafting policies that Trump might enact during his second term.
