Donald Trump's promises to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours of taking office are nothing more than rhetoric, Moscow has said.
The president-elect said several times on the campaign trail that he would be able to end the war quickly once he returned to the White House, without elaborating.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated he is willing to talk to Trump and said his comments on wanting to end the war in Ukraine "deserve attention at least".
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said yesterday that Putin's willingness to talk to Trump did not mean there was any willingness from Moscow to change the goals of its "special military operation" in Ukraine.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Moscow and Washington "are exchanging signals about Ukraine" through closed channels at the military and political level, according to Russian news agency Interfax.
