Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed Turkey's willingness to mediate in the crisis between Iran and the West over Tehran's nuclear program.
During a phone call with US President Donald Trump on Sunday, Erdogan said he was ready to take an active role in negotiations to reduce tensions that have escalated the conflict between Israel and Iran.
During the conversation, Erdogan welcomed Trump's recent signals for a peace agreement between Tehran and Tel Aviv, encouraging him to move from words to concrete actions.
"We must act immediately to avoid a catastrophe that could engulf the entire region," Erdogan said, according to the official statement.
This initiative comes at a time when tensions between Israel and Iran are rising, following Israeli and Iranian airstrikes.
