Attack on Iran, Netanyahu: We acted to prevent nuclear holocaust

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that air strikes against Iran were a necessary action to stop what he called "a nuclear holocaust."

In an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu said that Israeli intelligence services had provided clear data indicating that Iran was just months away from developing a nuclear weapon.

"We had to act. It was the last moment, and we acted. To save ourselves, but also to protect the world from this incendiary regime," he declared.

Netanyahu stressed that Israel had shared information with the United States and, according to their data, Tehran was rapidly advancing a secret plan to turn uranium into weapons.

"The information we received and shared with the United States was absolutely clear: That they were working on a secret plan to turn uranium into weapons, that they were moving very quickly, that they would achieve a test device and perhaps an initial device within a few months, and certainly less than a year ," he said.

"We could never accept this. We will not have a second Holocaust, a nuclear Holocaust. We went through one in the last century, the Jewish state will not allow another massacre of its people," Netanyahu said.

He added that Iran had enough enriched uranium for nine nuclear bombs and, according to him, "all they were missing was weaponizing them. We stopped that."

Asked if regime change in Iran was part of his objectives, Netanyahu said: "It could be a result, because the Iranian regime is very weak."

He harshly attacked the government in Tehran, saying that "80% of the population would oust this theocratic clique."

"They shoot women because they don't cover their hair. They shoot students. They take the breath away from these brave and talented people, the Iranian people ," Netanyahu added.

He stressed that the decision for change does not come from outside: "The decision to rise up this time is the Iranian people's own."
