Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that Europe's security without Turkey is unimaginable.
"Turkey considers its EU membership process a strategic priority as it is an inseparable part of Europe," President Erdogan said during an iftar with foreign ambassadors serving in Ankara, adding: "It is becoming increasingly impossible for Europe to continue as a global actor without Turkey taking its rightful place."
The Turkish president further warned that Israel will not find "the peace it seeks" without the creation of an independent Palestinian state with "territorial integrity based on the 1967 borders."
"As if their calls for the annexation of the West Bank were not enough, Israeli government ministers are playing with fire with provocations targeting the Al-Aqsa Mosque," Erdogan stressed.
He reiterated that the historic mosque is a "red line" for Turkey.
President Erdoğan also called for Muslims to be part of the global decision-making process, a status he said they fully deserve.
"Muslims, who make up a quarter of the world's population, must be represented in global decision-making processes as they deserve," Erdogan said in his speech to foreign ambassadors.
Erdogan also stressed the absolute necessity of having an Islamic country with veto power in the UN Security Council, a point he has emphasized over the years as part of his "the world is bigger than five" initiative.
"Having an Islamic country with veto power in the UN Security Council is no longer just a need, but a necessity," Erdogan said.
