The war between Israel and Hamas has prompted airlines to cancel flights to Tel Aviv officially until Tuesday October 10, but the cancellations are likely to last longer. According to the FlightAware platform, by the afternoon of Sunday October 8 at least 114 flights were canceled at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport between departures and arrivals, equal to a fifth of the scheduled movements for the day. The number is expected to rise as carriers review their plans for Israel. Warnings from Eurocontrol, updated hourly and sent to the companies' operational centers, prohibit travel on certain "airways" between 11,000-12,000 feet (3,350 meters) in Israeli airspace - effectively banning that route - to to avoid on the one hand interference in military operations and on the other hand to avoid being hit by Hamas rockets.
