Dozens injured in Russian missile and drone attacks on major Ukrainian cities
At least 14 people were killed overnight in Ukraine by Russian air strikes, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Specifically, 7 in Odessa, 4 in Kiev, and 3 in the Dnipropetrovsk region lost their lives in Russian missile and drone attacks, while dozens of others were injured.
In Kiev, "four people were killed, including a 12-year-old boy," said the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko, adding that "45 residents were injured," including health workers. According to Klitschko, Russian attacks on Kiev continue this morning.
"In the Podilskyi district, where the ground floor of a private residential building collapsed, a child was rescued from the rubble," he described. In the same district, a low-flying drone crashed into an 18-story apartment building, Klitschko noted.
Meanwhile, in Odessa, in southern Ukraine, at least seven people were killed when the city was targeted by "several waves of drone and missile attacks at night," said the head of the local military command, Serhiy Lysak.
Furthermore, Odessa Governor Oleh Kiper noted that infrastructure at the city's port was damaged by Russian attacks.
At the same time, damage was reported to at least three high-rise buildings, a dormitory, and other buildings, while fires were also caused.
Three people were killed in the Dnipropetrovsk region in a Russian attack, the head of the local military command, Oleksandr Ganza, said.
For its part, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that it had shot down or neutralized 31 Russian missiles and 636 drones over the past 24 hours.
"During this time, the enemy launched two waves of coordinated attacks against Ukrainian territory using surface-to-air and air-launched missiles, as well as attack drones," the Air Force said in a statement.
In total, it detected 703 Russian air targets.
Talks between Russia and Ukraine under US auspices have not allowed any progress towards a peace agreement.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is seeking to strengthen his alliances, primarily with Europeans.
Yesterday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the defense sector, mainly in the production of drones.
On Tuesday, Zelensky announced a strategic agreement in the field of defense and drones with Germany and strengthened Ukraine's cooperation with Norway in the same areas.
"We need air defense missiles every day, every day that the Russians continue their attacks on our cities," the Ukrainian president wrote yesterday on X.
