Farmers in Greece toughen their stances, protests are expected to escalate and

In Greece, the farmers' protests continue, which also yesterday gathered in Nikaia of Larissa. It is the time when the planned nationwide meeting will begin, in which the farmers will take the final decisions on the continuation of their protests. And while the farmers have made it clear that they will toughen their stance, escalating their protests, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis leaves the "window" open for a meeting with them.

In the proposals for today's decisive meeting, the farmers plan to continue by blocking national roads and the Isthmus of Corinth, descending on Athens with tractors and a demonstration outside the Parliament, closing customs (the tractors are already lined up at the Niki border station in Folloria ), but also "invasions" for shares with agricultural machinery in the centers of the country's largest cities.

"We will jointly decide on our actions, how we will handle the situation after the statements of the prime minister that do not satisfy us. That's why we continue with a proposal to escalate the protests, to go out on the national road with tractors", said the representative of the farmers of Larissa, Rizos Maroudas, while the representative of the Agricultural Cooperative of Larissa, Christos Sidiropoulos, "promised" that we would see images of similar to those of farmers' demonstrations in Germany, France and Italy.

"The demands that we claim in each prefecture are summarized in one and only demand: We demand our survival as farmers, to stay in our villages", says the Panhellenic Blockade Committee.

The main demands of the farmers include subsidies, reduction of VAT on agricultural oil, electricity, fertilizers and supplies, as well as a clear definition of the compensations they will receive, a change in the PPB, etc.

However, the prime minister, speaking to reporters during the book's presentation by the director of his press office, Dimitris Tsiodra, did not rule out a meeting with them, saying he expects them to make decisions first.

Earlier in his speech he had sent a message to the world of agriculture, talking about the CAP and stressing that the government negotiated hard in Brussels, managing to keep the same resources, unlike other countries that were reduced: " I personally did this negotiation. . It was the EPP that succeeded and put up some barriers to the sometimes excessive demands and proposals of the Greens and Socialists. For all this, European farmers are protesting in large measure. The green transition is necessary, but it must be done carefully", said Kyriakos Mitsotakis, among others.
