France on fire from protests for the murdered teenager, BBC: Paris looks like a

At least 150 people were arrested across France after violent protests for the second night in a row. Paris resembled a war zone after protests sparked by the killing of a 17-year-old teenager by police forces.

In Nanterre you can still smell the smoke in the air this morning. The streets are littered with burnt, smashed, overturned cars.

Some of them are so badly burned that they are unrecognizable. Some bins are still on fire. There are broken windows on the ground and empty glass bottles that the protesters threw at the police.

That's the aftermath of a second night of violent protests on the outskirts of Paris, where a teenager was shot dead by police on Tuesday.

Protesters threw canisters and firecrackers at the police, who responded with tear gas.

As authorities are clearing the streets this morning, a local resident walks by and tells a neighbor: "This looks like a war zone."

Speaking this morning at a meeting on the crisis, the French president condemned the violence.

But many people in this community are deeply shocked and upset by what happened. Their anger is unlikely to go away anytime soon, meaning more clashes could happen in the coming days.

The teenager, named Nahel M, was shot at a distance after he refused a traffic stop and drove away.
Nahel came from a Franco-Algerian family, a neighbor told the Reuters news agency. Their numbers found that most of those killed by police in traffic stops since 2017 were black or Arab.
