Ukraine will commit to buying $100 billion worth of American weapons, which will be financed by Europe, as part of a deal for security guarantees from the US after a peace settlement with Russia, the Financial Times reported.
Kiev and Washington will also sign a $50 billion deal to produce drones in cooperation with Ukrainian companies that have been pioneering this technology since the Russian invasion in 2022.
Kiev has shared proposals for new security agreements with the United States, which have not been made public until now, in a list of topics for discussion with European allies ahead of a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, according to four people familiar with the matter. The document does not specify what weapons Ukraine seeks under the deal, but Kiev has made clear its desire to buy at least 10 U.S. Patriot air defense systems to protect its cities and critical infrastructure, as well as missiles and other equipment.
The document does not specify the amount of the drone deal. Asked at the White House on Monday about further US military aid to Ukraine, Trump replied: “We’re not giving anything. We’re selling weapons.”
The document details how Ukraine intends to oppose a proposal to the US, following Trump's stance on ending the war, which came to light after his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
Trump - Europeans
According to the document, Kiev also rejects Putin's proposal to Trump during their meeting in Alaska to freeze the remaining front if Ukraine withdraws its troops from the partially occupied eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. This would create "a springboard for a further and rapid advance of Russian forces towards the Dnieper city" and allow Putin to "achieve the goals of his aggressive policy by other means," the document says.
