An agreement to end the war is still "very, very far away," Volodymyr Zelensky said, adding that he expects to continue to receive US support, despite his public spat with Donald Trump last week.
"I think our relationship (with the US) will continue, because it is more than a casual relationship," the Ukrainian president said.
Speaking before leaving London yesterday, Zelensky said he believes Ukraine "has a strong enough partnership" with the US to continue the flow of aid from Washington to Kiev.
These comments seem to have not pleased US President Donald Trump at all, who reacted angrily on his social network "TruthSocial", calling the Ukrainian's statement the worst possible.
He stressed that the US will not tolerate Zelensky's behavior for much longer, adding that the Ukrainian president will not end the war as long as he feels he has the help of Europe and the US.
"This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelensky and America will not tolerate it for long! That's what I was saying, this guy does not want peace as long as he has America's support and, Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelensky, stated emphatically that they cannot do the job without the US - perhaps not a great statement that has been made in terms of a show of force against Russia. What are they thinking?" Trump wrote.
