A British mother on board a yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily has described the moments of horror as she held her daughter above the surface of the sea to save her from drowning.
The mother, named Charlotte Golunski, her partner and one-year-old daughter are reported to be among those rescued from the Bayesian luxury yacht.
The survivor said her family survived because they were outside when the yacht sank. Golunski said they were awakened by "thunder, lightning and waves that rocked the boat," as she said she was holding her child in her arms to keep from drowning, according to La Repubblica.
“I held him up with all my strength, my arms stretched up so he wouldn't drown. It was all dark. I couldn't keep my eyes open in the water. I was screaming for help, but all I could hear around me were the screams of others," she said.
She added that everything happened in a very short time.
