The Trump administration is imposing a series of new sanctions aimed at undermining Iran's military, while President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of United States military action against the Islamic Republic.
The Treasury Department announced Friday morning that one person and 8 entities were being designated "for their involvement in the procurement and transportation of sensitive machinery for Iran's defense industry."
A ship used to transport sensitive technology was also identified as seized property.
"The United States remains committed to thwarting any Iranian efforts to secure sensitive dual-use technology, components, and machinery that support the regime's ballistic missile, unmanned aerial vehicle, and asymmetric weapons programs. We have been clear: those who enable these schemes will be held accountable," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.
"Treasury will continue to degrade Iran's ability to produce and spread these deadly weapons, which threaten regional stability and global security."
As provided by the Trump administration, the newly designated entities and individuals are as follows.
— Unico Shipping based in Hong Kong
— Shun Kai Xing, a bulk carrier owned by Unico Shipping
— Zhang Yanbang, captain of the ship Shun Kai Xing
— Futech based in China
— Athena Shipping based in Hong Kong
— V-Shipping based in Singapore
— Shenzhen Xinxin Shipping based in China
— Edis Dis Ticaret Limited Company based in Turkey
Officials from the White House and the Treasury Department declined to characterize the technologies sent to Iran by the aforementioned companies.
