"Ready to meet Putin"/ Zelensky takes big step towards peace, proposes

Will Putin agree to sit at a table with Zelensky?

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for the immediate resumption of negotiations with Russia, proposing a new round of talks next week.

In an address to the nation on Saturday, he stated that Security Council Secretary Rustem Umerov has made an official offer to Moscow to hold a meeting next week.

" Security Council Secretary [Rustem] Umerov also reported that he had proposed the next meeting with the Russian side for next week. The momentum of the negotiations should be accelerated ," Zelenskyy said, stressing the need for a meeting at the leadership level and expressing his readiness to sit down face-to-face with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Previous negotiations, held in Istanbul, ended without concrete progress on a ceasefire, although they brought about major prisoner exchanges and agreements for the return of the bodies of slain soldiers.

In the latest round of talks, Russia presented a list of tough demands, including handing over more territory and renouncing any Western military support - conditions that Kiev called "unacceptable" and signaled a deadlock in the process.

For its part, the Kremlin has expressed its willingness to continue talks, especially after new pressure from US President Donald Trump, who has given Russia a 50-day deadline to reach a peace agreement or face new sanctions.

Meanwhile, the US has pledged new military aid to Ukraine, funded by NATO allies, at a time when Ukrainian cities are facing increasingly intense air strikes from Russia. On Saturday alone, Russian attacks claimed the lives of three more civilians.

Zelenskyy has made it clear: without a bold move at the highest level, peace in Ukraine remains an illusion. Meanwhile, time is running out and the bodies are piling up.
