The German government last year modernized the migration law, easing the rules for the arrival of the workforce in Germany. From June 1, two important rules for the Balkans finally come into force.

The new laws that facilitate the arrival of skilled labor in Germany, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called in the Bundestag last year "another step for the modernization of Germany, another step to ensure economic growth for the future, and another step that overcomes the paralysis of several decades.”

After the approval of the laws in the Bundestag, two legal changes that were approved in Germany last year finally come into force on June 1.

The contingent from the Western Balkans that comes with eased regulations to Germany doubles.

From June 1, 2024, the Regulation of the Western Balkans is expanded. This regulation was introduced a few years ago to facilitate the arrival of labor from the countries of the Western Balkans. Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia to Germany will now expand from 25,000 to 50,000 people per year.

On June 1, the Card of Chances also comes into force

With this card, foreigners from non-EU countries have the opportunity to travel to Germany to look for work, even without an employment contract. In order to obtain the Chance Card, points must be collected: there are several criteria for obtaining points, it counts basic knowledge of the German language or good knowledge of the English language, qualifications, professional experience, at least two years or a higher professional education in the country origin. For other special achievements, candidates receive other points - Whoever achieves 6 points receives a residence permit in Germany for 1 year, if he provides his own living./DW
