A violent robbery has rocked the Nimes area in southern France, where three armed men forced their way into the home of a 56-year-old businessman and held him hostage along with his son.
According to French media, the incident occurred yesterday evening, when the owner of a medical equipment company left the office around 7:00 p.m.
Upon arriving at his apartment in Cachargues, the robbers forced the 56-year-old man inside, where his 22-year-old son was also present.
Both were held hostage and threatened with weapons, while the perpetrators also exercised physical violence against the head of the family.
Under threat of weapons, they were forced to hand over to the robbers: about 10 luxury watches, with an estimated value of 1 million euros, three rings, a bracelet, as well as mobile phones.
The second son, 19, was also in the house during the incident, who hid and managed to call the police after hearing the noises and screams. When law enforcement arrived, they found the 56-year-old with head injuries.
A short time later, the businessman's luxury car was found engulfed in flames on a road near Nîmes. Preliminary investigations indicate that the robbers abandoned it and fled in another vehicle.
French police have launched a large-scale operation to identify and capture the perpetrators of the armed robbery.
