Robbery at a bank in Naples: armed men held 25 hostages and escaped through a tunnel, while all hostages were released without serious injuries after the intervention of the authorities.

A bank robbery in Naples today, resembling a movie script, took place. Several armed robbers entered the bank in broad daylight, holding 25 people hostage before escaping through a tunnel.

Police surrounded a Crédit Agricole branch in the southern Italian city shortly after the robbery began around noon local time.

Local media reported that authorities held negotiations with the robbers, before the hostages were released about two hours after the incident began.

Footage shared on social media shows firefighters breaking a window with heavy equipment and helping people get out of the bank.

Some of the hostages escaped unharmed, while others were seen in shock, crying and hugging their relatives. Six people, who were in a state of shock, received medical attention.

One of the hostages told local media outlet Fanpage.it that the robbers had locked them in a room and, although they were armed, "did not use violence."

No one was seriously injured. " Thanks to the quick response... all hostages were released shortly after 1:30 p.m. without serious injuries ," regional official Michele di Bari said.

A large number of citizens, residents, and firefighters gathered in the square awaiting developments, while tens of thousands of people watched a live broadcast from the scene.

Special carabinieri forces were urgently dispatched from Tuscany.

A few hours later, security forces broke into the bank by breaking a window. Shots and explosions of stun grenades were heard live on the broadcast.

However, according to local media, the robbers had managed to escape through a tunnel, likely by entering the sewer system.

Later footage showed law enforcement and firefighters checking a nearby well, while the crowd continued to linger in the area.

According to Fanpage.it, the value of the stolen items cannot yet be determined, as the perpetrators targeted personal safes and not cash.
