British authorities have banned Asma al-Assad, the wife of deposed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, from entering the UK on health grounds as her passport is invalid. The news was disclosed by several British government sources to the Times.
It is unclear whether the travel document has expired or has been actively blocked. According to the newspaper's sources, since the passport of the seriously ill Syrian woman in exile is invalid and the government will not allow her to return for health reasons, Assad will not be able to receive medical treatment in Great Britain.
Earlier this month, the Telegraph reported that Syria's former first lady has a 50% chance of survival after an aggressive form of blood cancer returned after treatment for the disease.
Asma, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in May this year, is in complete isolation in Moscow while being treated for the aggressive cancer.
According to the Times, the person helping him fight the disease in the Russian capital is the cardiologist father, who appears to have left his London home with his wife.
