The Secretary General of the UN stated that he rejected the claims of the Israelis who accused him of 'justifying acts of terror' by Hamas.
In recent moments, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has held a brief press conference, addressing the controversial comments he made yesterday.
" The grievances of the Palestinian people cannot justify the horrific attacks by Hamas ," he said as he continued with his stance on "all aspects of the Middle East crisis."
He has been criticized by Israeli officials after he said the deadly Hamas attack on the country "did not happen in a vacuum" and that the Palestinian people had endured 56 years of "suffocating occupation".
He added that he was "appalled" by the "misinterpretations" of his comments, saying he had been portrayed as "justifying acts of terror by Hamas".
" This is false. It was the opposite. I believe it was necessary to set the record straight especially out of respect for the victims and their families ," he said.
