Hamas kills daughter and British mother in Israel, latest message: Terrorists

A 13-year-old British girl has been found dead after Hamas militants attacked their home in Israel. Her mother was also killed in the attack.

Relatives of Yahel Sharabi confirmed her death on Tuesday. Her sister Noiya, 16, is missing and their mother, Lianne, 48, was killed in the attack. She was originally from Bristol but moved to Israel at the age of 19. The Israeli father of the girls, Eli, 51, is also missing. Sakaq, his brother Yossi, was seen being driven by gunmen from his house next door in the kibbutz, about two miles from the Gaza border.

Before Yahel's death was confirmed, Rishi Sunak said on Monday that six British nationals had been killed in the attacks, while ten others were missing. Raz Matalon, 53, Eli's brother-in-law, told The Times on Monday: “We want the British government to take some action to at least find out what happened to the girls. We don't know if they have been kidnapped, but if we get to that point, we would be happy if they try to do everything they can to bring those girls home." Matalon described how the family had exchanged messages with Lianne that morning after it became clear there had been a serious security breach.

Although security alerts were not uncommon, he said it was evident from their messages that something more serious was unfolding as the family took refuge in a safe room. "Lianne started to sound a little strange, she said it wasn't like all the other times because they started hearing gunshots outside the house and calls in Arabic coming closer and closer," Matalon said. "She wrote to us on WhatsApp that something was happening. Then Lianne said she had to be quiet because they were very close to her house and at that point we stopped calling because we were afraid the ringing of the phone would alert them," Matalon added.

Lives will never be the same
The family has heard little since, but on Sunday relatives were informed that Lianne's body had been identified from dental records. They are arranging her funeral in Israel after relatives in England gave their blessing for her to be buried in a place she loved. They described how she moved to Israel as a teenager to volunteer on a kibbutz and never left; later met her husband, whom she married in Great Britain. Matalon, speaking alongside Eli and Yossi's brother Sharon, said the army had found evidence of gunfire in the family's home, which was "destroyed", as well as two large bloodstains on the floor.

Paying tribute to Lianne, who held several jobs at the kibbutz, he added: “She was not only my sister, but my friend, I don't know what to say. I loved him. We were friends for many, many years. There are no words to describe how we feel, this is not written anywhere." "All of us understand that our lives will not be the same again, that's very clear. But Sharon and I understand that we have a mission to bring the family back to life. This is a misfortune that a family does not normally feel, but we have to be strong and bring the group back. At first we mostly cried, we couldn't do anything. Now we are channeling all our forces and into action. We have no time for emotions. I hope that in the future we can bring this family back," he concluded.
