Hezbollah has introduced a new tactic in its confrontation with Israeli forces, using fiber-optic-guided drones that evade electronic air defense systems. The development signals a new phase in the conflict along the border with Lebanon.
These small drones are connected to their operators by very thin cables, making them immune to the electronic jamming typically used to neutralize conventional drones. The tactic mirrors methods used in the war in Ukraine, where similar systems have proven difficult to stop.
Experts point out that these devices can fly at very low altitudes and approach targets without being detected, posing a serious threat despite their small size.
"If used properly, they are extremely lethal," Robert Tollast of the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) told the Associated Press.
According to reports, Hezbollah has used these drones against Israeli troops in southern Lebanon and near the border, in areas where conventional missiles and larger drones have been intercepted by Israeli defense systems.
