Iran claims to have hit a US warship serving as a "command and control center" as it approached Iranian territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman.

The news was reported on Wednesday by Iranian state media and the Tasnim news agency, which cited Iranian military sources.

According to the report, the Iranian navy targeted the American ship after, according to Tehran, the US had carried out attacks on Iranian merchant ships and violated navigation rules in the Strait of Hormuz.

So far there has been no official reaction from Washington regarding Iran's claim.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi declared that Tehran's military operations are "defensive actions" against facilities that, according to him, are being used by the United States to attack civilian maritime traffic and violate the ceasefire.

" Any hostile act will receive an immediate and decisive response. What sanctions and war failed to achieve, more war will not achieve ," Araghchi wrote on the X platform.

At the same time, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that since the beginning of the naval blockade on Iran, US forces have diverted 125 merchant ships and detained six others.

CENTCOM also rejected Iranian claims that the attack on the passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport was not carried out by Iran.

" Iran struck a civilian airport with a drone in a deliberate, calculated and unjustified attack ," CENTCOM said in a post on the social network X.

The latest clash comes at a time of high tension between Tehran and Washington, as incidents in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz continue to raise concerns about the safety of navigation in one of the world's most important energy corridors.
