Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi defended his country's recent attacks on US facilities and bases in the Middle East, calling them legitimate acts of self-defense.
In a statement published on social media, Araghchi said that Iranian forces are responding to actions that, according to Tehran, violate the ceasefire and the country's security.
"Our armed forces are carrying out self-defensive strikes in locations that the US is permitted to use to attack civilian ships and violate the ceasefire. Any hostile act will be met with an immediate and decisive response ," he wrote.
The statement comes after Iranian forces targeted US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, as well as a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important sea lanes for global energy trade.
Tensions between Iran and the United States have risen again in recent days, with both sides carrying out mutual attacks despite the existence of a previously announced ceasefire.
Although neither Tehran nor Washington has officially declared the end of the ceasefire, both sides have accused each other of violating the agreement and of actions that endanger regional stability.
At the same time, diplomatic channels remain open and talks between the parties are continuing. Diplomatic sources report that some progress has been made in the negotiations, although the situation on the ground remains fragile and unstable.
