The Saudi refinery at Ras Tanura, operated by state-owned Saudi Aramco, was shut down after a drone attack in the area, Reuters and Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Saudi Aramco wants to take time to assess the damage after the attack, the second statement said, adding that a fire had been brought under control.
The Ras Tanura refinery, located in the Persian Gulf, is one of the largest in the region, with a capacity of 550,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
Meanwhile, explosions are reported in Bahrain and Dubai, as well as near the US embassy in Kuwait.
On Sunday, an Iranian missile attack killed nine people in the Israeli town of Beit Shemesh. In Cyprus, a British Royal Air Force (RAF) base was targeted by a “suspected drone attack,” according to the British Ministry of Defense.
The United States announced earlier that three members of its forces had been killed in action, but without specifying the location.
Global oil prices rose as markets opened in Asia on Monday, as travel disruptions continued, with airspace closed across the Persian Gulf region.
