Italy amid heat and storms, flooding in Como and Bergamo; 13 flights postponed

Italy has been hit by heavy rain and strong storms this morning. The bad weather in Lombardy, with torrential rains, has hit several cities. The provinces most affected are Monza and Brianza, Milan, Como, Bergamo and Cremona.

At Orio al Serio airport, 13 incoming flights were diverted to other airports, while in Lentate sul Seveso the flooding of the river forced the evacuation of around 15 people from flooded houses. 9 planes were landing in Bologna, 3 in Malpensa and 1 in Verona, while some had their departures delayed as the diverted planes were expected to be repositioned.

Italian authorities have issued an orange alert for strong storms, as Lake Como has overflowed its banks, causing flooding in surrounding areas. The situation has also become critical in the Seveso basin, which has been activated to manage the high flows.

In the town of Lentate, two families have been evacuated due to the risk of flooding. Authorities continue to monitor the situation while citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary movements and stay informed of further developments.

The Civil Protection has issued a yellow storm alert for today in three regions, Emilia Romagna, Lombardy and Marche.
