Israel does not stop, seeks "green light" from Trump for occupation of
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Netanyahu

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to discuss during his visit to Israel the possibility of Israel annexing parts of the West Bank, as a response to plans by several Western countries to recognize the State of Palestine later this month, according to Israeli and US officials.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not yet made a final decision on annexation, Axios reports. He wants to know in his meeting with Rubio whether President Trump would support such an act, according to an Israeli source.

Two Israeli officials told Axios that Rubio has hinted in private meetings that he is not against West Bank annexations and that the Trump administration will not be an obstacle.

However, Israel's plan has begun to create concerns within the Trump administration itself, because there has been no clear US position on the issue, and there is a perception that the Israeli government is trying to catch Washington by surprise.

In recent days, several internal meetings have been held at the White House and the State Department to establish a political line on this issue, so that the American position is not left open to interpretation.

One of the main concerns of American officials is that Israel's annexation of parts of the West Bank could lead to the destruction of the Abraham Accords and tarnish Trump's political legacy.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has warned the Trump and Israeli governments that any annexation of the West Bank would severely damage the UAE-Israel peace agreement as well as broader agreements, undermining hopes for their peaceful expansion.
