Saudi Arabia has reacted after Israel attacked military targets in Iran for the first time.
The State News Agency in Saudi Arabia wrote that the country asked the parties involved, without mentioning Israel, to show maximum restraint and called on the international community to do everything possible to reduce tensions before it is too late.
Iranian media reported multiple explosions over the course of several hours in the capital and nearby military bases, starting shortly after 2 a.m. local time. Iran said its air defense system successfully countered Israeli attacks on military targets in Tehran, Khuzestan and Ilam provinces with "limited damage" in some places.
"In response to months of continuous attacks by the regime in Iran against the State of Israel, the Israel Defense Forces are now conducting precision strikes against military targets in Iran," the Israeli military said in a statement announcing the attack.
The IDF spokesman added that, "like any other sovereign country in the world, the State of Israel has the right and duty to respond."
