The village of Vidhisht in Roskovec woke up this Saturday under a heavy atmosphere of mourning, just one day after the double crime that shocked the entire country. Residents headed to the Plaka family's apartment, where the morgue doors were opened for the spouses who lost their lives in the armed attack by their ex-son-in-law.
Relatives, neighbors and friends remember the couple as hardworking, quiet people and respected by the entire community. For residents, the tragedy is still unbelievable and no one can understand how a family conflict ended in a massacre.
At 11:00, family members and hundreds of residents are expected to bid the two spouses a final farewell at the village cemetery, in a funeral ceremony that is expected to take place amidst pain and tears.
The serious incident occurred on Friday, when Refit Buzi, 35, executed his former father-in-law, Arben Plaka, with a shotgun, while seriously wounding his former mother-in-law, who later died in hospital. During the attack, he also took hostage his ex-wife, Rozalinda Plaka, who was released after the intervention and negotiations of RENEA forces.
After several hours of negotiations with the police to surrender, the perpetrator committed suicide with a gun inside the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the funeral ceremony for the author will take place on Sunday morning. This decision was taken to avoid any clashes or tension between the two families, who live in the same village and use the same cemetery.
Even though it has been a day since the tragedy, the residents of Vidhisht say that the peace of the village has been broken forever. The crime that destroyed a family has left behind a deep wound, which will remain long in the memory of the community.
