Despite statements that the Russian president would not congratulate Donald Trump on his victory in the US elections, Vladimir Putin has chosen to break his silence.
President Putin congratulated Trump on his victory and him on his victory, as he emphasized that he is ready to talk to him.
Putin made the congratulations at the Valdai debating club in Sochi, a day after Trump's victory, as he reportedly said he was impressed by his demeanor after surviving an assassination attempt at a rally in July.
He described Trump as a "courageous man" and that any ideas for easing the end of the crisis in Ukraine deserve attention.
"It should be clear to everyone: It is pointless to put pressure on us. But we are always ready to negotiate if the legitimate mutual interests are fully taken into account. This is what we called and continue to call on all participants in the communication international to do" , he said at a meeting of the Valdai discussion club.
This statement by Putin gives signs that Trump's idea to achieve a quick peace in Ukraine is more likely than ever.
Trump has previously threatened to cut aid to Ukraine - a vital source of support under Biden to fend off a Russian invasion. US arms and donations far exceed those of any other ally.
This reaction of Putin shows a turning point in Russia's approach to the US, since since the start of the war in Ukraine, relations between the two states were at a historic low.
