United States President Donald Trump has commented on efforts to organize a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump said he would prefer not to attend the meeting. He then used a metaphorical comparison to describe their relationship, saying that Putin and Zelensky are like oil and vinegar, they don't get along.
"We'll see if Putin and Zelensky work together. You know, this is a bit like oil and vinegar. They don't get along very well with each other, for obvious reasons, but we'll see, and then we'll see if I have to be there or not. I would prefer not to be. I would prefer that they have a meeting and see how they can work it out," he stressed.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told NBC News that there are currently no plans for Putin to meet with Zelensky, but the Russian leader will be ready for it as soon as an agenda is prepared.
President Vladimir Putin of Russia and President Donald Trump of the United States held a meeting in Alaska on August 15. On August 18, Trump hosted Zelensky and European leaders in Washington.
The talks were attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
