Following the US, Canada will impose sanctions on Israeli settlers who fuel violence in the West Bank and impose new sanctions on Hamas leaders.
The US sanctions targeted four Israeli men accused of attacks on Palestinians, freezing their assets in the US and restricting financial relations with them. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has previously stated that he was considering imposing sanctions on "extremist" settlers on the West Coast.
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said today that some settlers "will be sanctioned" and that "we will bring new sanctions against the leaders of Hamas".
