A record amount of 22 tons of cocaine was seized during an operation in Ecuador.
The army said in a press release that the drugs, which were divided into a total of 733 packages, were destined for Asia, Europe and America. It took six months of monitoring and investigations to capture the amount of cocaine.
Yesterday, Ecuador's armed forces posted videos on Platform X showing large stacks of packages wrapped in plastic wrap, some of which had labels bearing the names of major airlines, at a site in the central Ecuadorian city of Vincennes.
The seizure comes as senior US officials are expected to visit the country, seeking stronger ties in the fight against crime, amid a military crackdown on gangs launched by the Ecuadorian government in which 2,700 people have been arrested in 13 days.
