Vladimir Putin remains open to contacts with Donald Trump, Russian President's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, following the US president's recent statements warning of tariffs on Russian oil if there is no peace soon in Ukraine.
"President Putin remains open to such (telephone) communication and, if necessary, such a conversation can be achieved very soon, " Peskov told reporters, responding to a question about whether a phone conversation between Putin and Trump is expected this week.
"At the moment, there is no planned phone call between the two presidents. We continue to work with the American side, first of all, to build our bilateral relations, which suffered great damage during the previous administration. This is only the initial stage, and again after a period in which our relations sank to their lowest point. Therefore, considerable efforts are needed to correct the situation. We are also working on the implementation of some ideas related to the Ukrainian settlement. These works are ongoing. So far, there are no details that we can and should inform you about. This is a process that continues to drag on over time, perhaps due to the complexity of the substance," he added.
On the issue of rare earths, Peskov clarified that Russia and the United States have not signed documents regarding their exploitation.
“No, no documents have been signed. You know that sanctions are still in force, restrictions apply to American companies,” the Kremlin spokesman said, responding to a question about whether Russia and the United States have signed documents on joint projects for mining rare earth metals.
