A man was shot by police while threatening an officer with a knife near the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. According to some reports, the man who was shot has died from his injuries.
The incident occurred on the famous Champs-Elysées in the afternoon.
According to Le Figaro, the attacker tried to stab an officer during the relighting of the flame at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, which takes place every day at 6 p.m., shouting "they shouldn't have killed our women and children, we'll see who triumphs under the Arc de Triomphe."
A second police officer, present at the scene, fired his service weapon.
The motives and identity of the suspect still remain unknown.
The French counter-terrorism service confirmed the incident and said it had launched an investigation, while there were no other injuries.
