
China and Turkey are "major developing countries with an independent spirit," and the high-level development of bilateral relations serves the fundamental interests of both countries and the common interests of the Global South, Chinese President Xi Jinping said during a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is in the port city of Tianjin to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
According to the Xinhua news agency, Xi called for embracing the global trend toward peace, development and win-win cooperation, working together for a "more just and equitable" international governance system.
On the eve of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which will be commemorated next year, Xi expressed his desire to strengthen mutual political trust, mutual support on issues of strategic importance, as well as cooperation in the field of security and the fight against terrorism.
