The Russian-installed leader of the occupied Donetsk region claims a civilian was killed by Ukrainian forces using cluster munitions - weapons banned from more than 100 countries.
Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People's Republic, wrote on Telegram that the civilian was killed in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk city.
He claimed six people, including a 12-year-old girl, were also injured in nearby Makeyevka and Svetlodarsk.
"Today, peaceful cities and districts of the Republic are being subjected to intense shelling by Ukrainian armed formations using cluster munitions ," he said, but did not provide any photographs or other evidence to support his claims.
Cluster bombs are weapons delivered by aircraft, artillery or rockets, which are launched into the air to release up to 100 'bombs' over a large area.
The use of cluster bombs in civilian areas violates international law and could be considered a war crime. The United States agreed to send them to Ukraine last month, prompting concern from many of its Western allies.
Two weeks later, the US confirmed that the weapons were being used "effectively" by the Ukrainians, but did not confirm how.
