Korea reveals the "plot" to kill Kim Jong-un: A well-thought-out plan

North Korea claims it has foiled a plot to assassinate its supreme leader Kim Jong-un.

Pyongyang accused US and South Korean agents of plotting to kill the dictator with radioactive toxins allegedly provided by the CIA.

It comes after CIA Director Mike Pompeo secretly met with the North Korean leader in Pyongyang, two months before Kim and Donald Trump's infamous 2018 summit.

Kim greeted the sergeant with a few words that brought shock “Mr. Director, I didn't think you would show up. I know you tried to kill me.”

Pompeo jokingly replied, "Mr. President, I'm still trying to kill you."

But it turns out the North Korean dictator wasn't joking after a source close to the assassination plot told the Daily Beast that he had an active plan "to topple the Kim regime" in 2017.

The master plan would have echoed Kim's killing of his half-brother with VX nerve agent months earlier.

Doh Hee-youn, CEO of the Citizens' Commission for the Human Rights of North Korean Abductees and Refugees, led the work from Seoul, South Korea.

Doh communicated with plot leader Kim Seong-il, based across the border in Russia, in the Siberian city of Khabarovsk.

"For two or three years, I talked to Kim Seong-il, whose goal was to topple the Kim regime," Doh told The Daily Beast.

Insider revealed that the plotters had planned to distribute USB sticks and memory cards to spread the word about the coup, announcing that the "supreme leader" would be killed.

He added that Seong-il was aware of the potential dangers of his plot, telling Doh that "in revolution there are always sacrifices. We knew it could be dangerous. Someone had to risk what we were going to do .”

It is understood that the plot progressed to the point where a close circle was ready to assassinate Kim Jong-un.

One of them is believed to have been a senior official in the power elite since the rule of Kim Jong Il, who died in 2011.

North Korean state media Uriminzokkiri also posted a 23-minute video online in May 2017 boasting that plotters, including Kim Seong-il, had been arrested.

The video, however, has not been previously reported either by South Korean or foreign media, The Daily Beast reports.

Doh claims that, in reality, the mastermind of the plot was a mysterious "high-profile person in Pyongyang".

Kim Seong-il appears in the first video from The Daily Beast, apparently tortured, confessing that he organized a team tasked with "removing" Kim Jong Un from power.

Seong-il, who claims to be funded by the NIS, details a plot to kill the supreme leader with a biological toxin or polonium, the same radioactive substance that killed former KGB spy Alexander Litvinenko in London in 2006.

A statement from the Korean Central News Agency, the regime's main propaganda mouthpiece, also claimed it thwarted a US-backed attempt to overthrow Kim in May 2017.

"A group of hateful terrorists who infiltrated our country at the behest of the US Central Intelligence Agency and South Korea's Puppet Intelligence Service for the purpose of committing state-sponsored terrorism against our supreme headquarters using biological and the chemical substance was captured and exposed. This clearly shows the true nature of the US as the main culprit behind terrorism," the statement said.
