The World Food Programme (WFP) has raised the alarm over the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The WFP says the situation is rapidly deteriorating and that more than half a million people are facing extreme hunger.
In an official post on the social network X (formerly Twitter), the WFP stated: "We are in a race against time to avert famine. If we wait until a famine is confirmed, it will be too late for many people."
The organization called on the international community to act immediately, restoring food aid to civilians in Gaza, before the situation reaches catastrophic proportions.
The latest analysis of food security in the territory suggests that the level of the crisis has increased and delays in humanitarian aid could have irreversible consequences for thousands of children, women and the elderly.
The WFP appeal comes amid reports of major difficulties in distributing aid due to blockades, the lack of safe corridors, and the deteriorating security situation on the ground.
