Lebanon's Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, said his country is currently open to engaging with Israel in a partnership to weaken Hezbollah, Bloomberg reported.
According to Bloomberg, Salam stated that the Lebanese state is ready to seek US help to promote negotiations, after the Jewish state intensified airstrikes on Iran-backed Hezbollah.
In the past, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun had offered to discuss disputes over land borders and Israel's withdrawal from areas held after the war with Hezbollah last year, as reported by Bloomberg News.
"I repeat the same offer of willingness to negotiate with Israel," Salam said.
In an interview with Bloomberg TV, Salam affirmed his belief in a diplomatic solution to the Lebanon-Hezbollah issue, referring to the US-brokered talks in 2022, when the boundaries in the energy-rich maritime areas were set. However, this time, he recalled, the US state had not yet met expectations.
"This is a puzzle to me. They are asking for negotiations and when we show willingness, they do not agree to the meeting," he said in an interview with Bloomberg TV, adding "I will discuss this with the Americans."
