Two Israeli women taken hostage by Hamas are released

Hamas announced that it released two more hostages being held in the Gaza Strip.

An Israeli government official has confirmed to the media that Hamas initially released two women named Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz. Afterwards, the Red Cross confirmed that thanks to their assistance, Hamas released two more hostages.

The Red Cross has emphasized its readiness to assist in any negotiations for the release of the hostages.

"We decided to release them for humanitarian and health reasons", says their announcement.

It is clear that the group is trying to win a public relations battle over the fate of the hostages, and perhaps aims to add to doubts in the minds of Israelis that their government is not doing everything to secure their release.
