
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has spoken out about Russia's internal war as he called on "all sides to show responsibility and protect civilians" amid an armed insurgency by the Wagner mercenary group.
The British prime minister told the BBC he was monitoring the situation "closely" and would hold talks with some of the UK's allies.
"This is an evolving situation, and I think the right thing to do at this point is to make sure we're in touch with our allies, who we are, and I'll be talking to them later today. We also call on for all parties to exercise responsibility and protect the lives of citizens", declared Sunak.
Asked if he had spoken to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Sunak reiterated that he was in touch with allies "as you would expect us to be coordinated in such a situation."
He was also asked about British citizens remaining in Russia, saying the UK has long issued advice to avoid traveling to Russia and that citizens should regularly check the Foreign Office website for updates. .
During the interview, Sunak said he would hold talks with Britain's allies, while calling on all parties to the Russian conflict to avoid taking measures against civilians.
