The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has strongly condemned the killing of the teenager by the French police. He said the killing of a teenager by the police is inexcusable and added that nothing justifies the death of a young person.
"We have a teenager who was killed. It is inexplicable, unforgivable ," Macron said.
His reaction comes after tensions between angry residents who set fire to barricades and police who fired tear gas at protesters in the streets of the Nanterre district in western Paris.
17-year-old Nahel was shot on Tuesday in his car, after he did not obey the police order.
A video circulating on social media shows a police officer pointing a gun at the driver of a car, before a gunshot is heard. The car then crashes. The teenager died as a result of bullet wounds to the chest, despite emergency help. The police officer who allegedly fired the shot was arrested on charges of murder.
We recall that the French government called for calm after the riots in the streets of Paris.
