Speaking to the leader of the United Arab Emirates, Donald Trump again spoke about his deal with Iran and insisted that the Strait of Hormuz will be fully open by Friday and will be toll-free.
"Good things are happening. Ships are starting to move now. We will fully open the Strait of Hormuz by Friday. The Strait will be open free of charge beyond 60 days... When it opens permanently, it will be free of charge ," Trump said during his meeting with the leader of the United Arab Emirates.
He then added that he will hold a press conference to read the exact wording of the ceasefire agreement to the press, "because it is a very important document." This comes amid varying reports on what the agreement actually contains.
"Not only will I publish it, but I'll probably hold a press conference and read it to you word for word ," he said.
Trump was asked by reporters what he would say to allies who are skeptical of his framework agreement, such as Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator.
" Lindsey is skeptical? I'll have to talk to her; she'll be in big trouble," Trump joked.
Then he downplays the doubts in his camp, saying Graham is "a lot of fun" and very okay.
"Look, this deal covers something very well. We're not paying for anything. We're not doing anything. The markets are higher now than when we started. The deal is about one thing: that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon. Never, never, never. The rest is irrelevant," the president said.
Trump thinks there is only one way to keep the situation open in the future, while accepting the deal with Iran. Then, a reporter asks Donald Trump how anyone can guarantee that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open in the future. He brought up the example of the US blockade of Iranian ports as a successful policy, which came in response to the blockade of the main shipping corridor by Iran.
"If you have a strong president of the United States, a lot of good things can happen ," he said.
Despite talking up his memorandum of understanding with Iran, Trump acknowledges that agreements have their limits.
" When you think we have all the deals you want, deals from bad people don't make any sense ," Trump said.
As for rising prices, Trump claims that prices could fall worldwide thanks to the deal. Currently, according to trackers, the price of a barrel of oil appears to be around $80.
"With the price of oil going down, as the price of oil goes down, so does everything... oil is going down. It's about 70 a barrel now and I think we'll get there ," Trump said.
The US president has been repeatedly criticized for the way his war on Iran has affected global economies, making the cost of living more expensive for many people, including his own people. In the past, Trump has said he expected this to push up oil prices even more than it has.
