Nine people remained dead, among them a little girl, after the boat capsized in the Maltese SAR area, Italy. Six people were taken to hospital, whose condition is critical, while another 23 survivors were taken to the Italian island of Lampedusa.
From the first evidence that the police managed to get, 46 migrants from Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali and the Ivory Coast were traveling on the boat, which left Sfax in Tunisia on Sunday evening.
The day before, another maritime tragedy was recorded in Greek waters. A raft carrying illegal immigrants sank, killing three minor girls. 19 people were rescued, among them eight children, the youngest of whom was only 30 days old.
