British activist and journalist Carol Vorderman has launched a barrage of accusations against Home Secretary Suella Braverman, calling her one of the worst secretaries in UK history.
Taking the trigger from yesterday's tragedy where some immigrants who were trying to cross the canal drowned due to the overflowing of the boat, the journalist accused Braverman of being guilty of this situation.
" You are the worst secretary in history, the position you hold is completely undeserved. You reproach everything that has been good in this country and you are seeking to cause division at every turn. I am ashamed of you and the government in it which you self-serve ," she stated.
The latest attacks on Braverman's policies come as pressure is mounting on Rishi Sunak to fire him.
The government's failure to tackle the small boat crisis resulted in tragedy when six asylum seekers who had fled Afghanistan drowned in the Channel yesterday. Braverman, who has been heavily criticized for her language about refugees, faced a backlash after she said her "thoughts and prayers" were with those affected.
Sunak has pledged to end small boat crossings, but more than 16,000 people have made the dangerous journey since the start of the year.
We remember how yesterday fifty-nine people were rescued by the British and French coastguards after a boat overloaded with migrants got into trouble near Sangatte. Care4Calais said the incident was a "terrible and preventable tragedy" while the Refugee Council warned that "more people will die" unless safer routes to the UK are created.
