Superyacht sinking off Sicily, 'Bayesian' captain refuses to answer

The captain of British tech magnate Mike Lynch's yacht Bayesian, which sank off Palermo on August 19, James Cutfield, has pleaded not guilty, admitted responsibility and refused to answer questions from prosecutors.

Catfield, as reported by the Ansa agency, has refused to answer the prosecutors' questions because, as his lawyer explained, he was exhausted and because his team did not have enough time to prepare a defense in case he is charged. on suspicion of multiple murders causing the sinking of the yacht that killed Lynch, his eighteen-year-old daughter Hannah and five other people.

Prosecutors in Termini Imerese officially put 51-year-old Catfield under investigation yesterday, Ansa agency reported.

During a two-hour meeting with state prosecutors yesterday, the captain answered questions including whether the doors and hatches were closed and at what point the alarm was activated after the yacht was caught in a storm and what actually happened during the 32 minutes inside where the luxury ship is supposed to have sunk.

Before working for Lynch, Catfield captained luxury yachts in the Mediterranean for years and also worked for an unnamed Turkish billionaire. A total of seven people died in the sinking of the ship and 15 people survived, including all crew members except the cook Recaldo Thomas.

Ansa learns that more people may be under investigation in connection with the sinking of the ship, and according to well-informed sources, the vice captain and the man who was on watch the night of the shipwreck may be involved.
