Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said that Russia will not allow the uprising of the Wagner mercenary group, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, to turn into a coup or a global crisis.
Responding to reporters' questions, Medvedev, the deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, warned that the whole world would be on the brink of catastrophe if Russian nuclear weapons fell into Wagner's hands.
" The history of mankind has not yet seen the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons under the control of bandits. Such a crisis will not be limited by the borders of one country, the world will be brought to the brink of destruction. We will not allow such a turn of events ," Medvedev said, Russian state news agency TASS reports.
Medvedev has often used hard-line rhetoric since Russia sent troops to Ukraine, regularly reminding the West of Russia's nuclear arsenal in an effort to discourage the US and its allies from increasing arms supplies to Kiev.
