Germany's incoming Chancellor Friedrich Merz declared his intention to "meet soon" with US President Donald Trump after the Christian Democrats (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) reached an agreement to form a government in Germany.
"We'll see each other soon," Friedrich Merz told the ADF television network, clarifying that a specific date for their meeting has not yet been set.
In any case, before his meeting with the American president, as he himself has explained, consultations at the EU level will be needed, especially on issues such as customs duties.
Friedrich Merz explained that his goal is to represent all EU countries, not just Germany, on his upcoming trip to Washington.
"For me, the priority is Europe," he added.
At the same time, in an interview with ZDF, Merz said that Europe is ready to negotiate with the US on tariffs, but at the same time determined to defend its interests in the international trade dispute.
