The head of X has resigned after two years in the role, just days after owner Elon Musk announced plans to found a new political party.
Linda Yaçarino, who joined the social media company in 2023, said she had decided to step down as chief executive.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, she wrote: "When Elon Musk and I first talked about his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to fulfill this company's extraordinary mission."
"I am incredibly grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of defending free speech, changing the company, and transforming X into the app for everything," she wrote.
Yaçarino hailed a “historic turnaround” for the company, which was acquired by Mr. Musk in a $44 billion deal in 2022.
She added that X was entering a "new chapter" with its focus on artificial intelligence.
Her departure comes days after Musk revealed plans to create a new political party amid a deepening rift with US President Donald Trump.
This also comes after controversy over X's Grok chatbot, which had begun publishing anti-Semitic responses.
Musk's company said yesterday it would delete what it described as "inappropriate" posts.
