Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has approved the army's plan to occupy Gaza City and authorized the mobilization of approximately 60,000 reservists for its execution.
The plan was presented to the Defense Minister by the Chief of General Staff of the Israeli Armed Forces, Eyal Zamir, and the army's senior command team.
The new reservists will be added to the 70,000 reservists already serving, bringing the total number of reservists in service to 130,000.
Mobilization is expected in early September, with the IDF preparing for the possibility of lower participation levels due to fatigue among reservists.
The full occupation of Gaza City is considered a continuation of the first version of the operation.
"Operational planning continues as usual. We are determined to implement the cabinet's decision to occupy Gaza City unless a framework is presented that includes the release of all hostages and an end to the war according to the terms set by the prime minister," a senior official told the Jerusalem Post newspaper on Tuesday.
